Madras High Court building inaugurated

After three decades in temporary quarters, the Madras High Court moved into its Indo-Saracenic complex, inaugurated on 12 July 1892.
Between its founding in 1862 and 1892, the Madras High Court sat in a Periamet building that had previously been used by the Supreme Court of Madras. Work on a new complex in George Town started in October 1888, following an Indo-Saracenic design by J. W. Brassington that Henry Irwin later expanded. The formal inauguration took place on 12 July 1892. The complex ranks among the largest of its kind anywhere in the world.
