Construction started in George Town, Madras, on the Indo-Saracenic High Court complex, designed by J. W. Brassington and opened in 1892.

Beginning in 1862, the Madras High Court occupied a Periamet building that had previously been home to the Supreme Court of Madras. Work on a new complex in George Town started in October 1888. J. W. Brassington drew up the Indo-Saracenic design, Henry Irwin later oversaw its expansion, and the building included a lighthouse whose height was raised to 175 feet. The official inauguration took place on 12 July 1892.
