Among the Pallava monuments of Mamallapuram, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Chinese President Xi Jinping for an informal summit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in Mamallapuram for an informal summit in October 2019. Together they toured Pallava-era monuments: the Shore Temple, Arjuna's Penance and the Pancha Rathas complex. Once a port of the Pallavas, the town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the meeting brought it worldwide attention.
