The memorial to M. G. Ramachandran on Marina Beach, begun in 1988, was inaugurated by his widow V. N. Janaki Ramachandran.

M. G. Ramachandran was buried on the Marina seafront in Madras after his death in December 1987, next to the memorial of C. N. Annadurai. Construction of a memorial at the site began in 1988, and it was inaugurated by his widow, former Chief Minister V. N. Janaki Ramachandran, in May 1990. The memorial was remodelled with marble in 1992 by the Jayalalithaa government and renovated again in 1996-98. It became one of the most visited sites on the Marina and a focal point of AIADMK political events.
