Aged 12 years and 10 months, R. Praggnanandhaa of Chennai became a grandmaster, at that time the second-youngest ever.

Born in Chennai in 2005, R. Praggnanandhaa had become history's youngest international master in 2016, when he was 10. He secured his third and last grandmaster norm on 23 June 2018 at the Gredine Open in Italy. His age then, 12 years, 10 months and 13 days, made him the second-youngest grandmaster up to that point. Vaishali, his elder sister, later gained the title too, and the two became the first brother and sister grandmasters.
