Under the Andhra Pradesh and Madras (Alteration of Boundaries) Act, Tiruttani and nearby areas joined Madras State.

When Andhra State was formed in 1953, Tiruttani remained part of Chittoor district. The Andhra Pradesh and Madras (Alteration of Boundaries) Act, passed by Parliament in 1959, came into effect on 1 April 1960. It transferred Tiruttani taluk and Pallipattu sub-taluk to Madras State in exchange for smaller areas of Chingleput and Salem districts. M. P. Sivagnanam of the Tamil Arasu Kazhagam had campaigned for the transfer.
