In December 1894 Madras hosted the tenth Indian National Congress session, presided over by Alfred Webb, an Irish nationalist MP.

Madras was the venue in December 1894 for the tenth annual session of the Indian National Congress. Alfred Webb, an Irish nationalist who sat in the British Parliament and was a friend of Dadabhai Naoroji, took the chair. Only two non-Indians, George Yule and William Wedderburn, had presided before him, making him the third. The city had previously hosted the Congress in 1887, so this was its second session there.
