Facing continued British repression, Bengali nationalist Aurobindo Ghose moved to French Pondicherry in April 1910.

Aurobindo Ghose had been tried and acquitted in the Alipore Bomb Case and continued to publish nationalist journals. Facing renewed pressure from the colonial government, he withdrew from politics and in April 1910 moved to Pondicherry, then French territory. British police continued to watch his activities there. Pondicherry already sheltered other nationalists from the Madras Presidency, including Subramania Bharati. Aurobindo stayed there for the rest of his life and developed his system of Integral Yoga.
