Raja of Bobbili becomes Premier
· Chennai
The Raja of Bobbili, a zamindar, replaced B. Munuswamy Naidu as Premier and led the last Justice Party ministry before 1937.
Ramakrishna Ranga Rao, the Raja of Bobbili, became Premier in November 1932 after a revolt within the Justice Party against B. Munuswamy Naidu. Apart from a short interval in 1936 when P. T. Rajan held the post, he remained Premier until 1 April 1937, when the Government of India Act 1935 came into force. The Justice Party lost support during his tenure because of its association with zamindars and the economic hardship of the depression years. It was heavily defeated by the Congress in the 1937 election.
