Pudukkottai comes under Company protection

Through a subsidiary alliance, the Tondaiman state of Pudukkottai came under the protection of the East India Company.
Pudukkottai, governed by the Tondaiman dynasty, had sided with the East India Company during the Carnatic, Anglo-Mysore and Polygar wars. In 1800 the subsidiary alliance system placed it under Company protection. It continued as a princely state whose affairs were watched over by a political agent of the Madras government, a post usually held by the Collector of Tanjore until 1840. The state was brought under the Madras States Agency from 1923 and was dissolved in 1948.
